Wyman Elementary held a special assembly Monday to celebrate the 2006-2007 third-grade class being named in the Top 10 schools in percent of students scoring at the “proficient” or “advanced” levels among schools with an enrollment of 500 students or more.
Wyman was named in the Top 10 for both math and communication arts.
Principal Susan Bowles greeted students and told them about a time capsule from 1963 found in the cornerstone of the school when the cornerstone was moved for remodeling in 2006.
“This time capsule was created even before most of your parents were born,” said Bowles.
The time capsule contained information about Col. Wyman and his life, along with photos and other memorabilia.
The contents of the capsule will be displayed in a glass display case in front of the school office.
Dr. Jerry Giger, superintendent, Dr. Aaron Zalis, deputy superintendent, Tamara Kimball, assistant superintendent and Jane Haskell, president of Rolla Board of Education, were all on hand to congratulate the children.
