Lynn Graves gave the Rolla Public School District a clean bill of health, financially speaking, Thursday night when he presented the 2008-2009 audit to the Board of Education.
Representing Graves and Associates, CPAs, LLC, Graves informed the board that the district’s audit did not turn up any deficiencies in its financial reporting or its internal controls.
“Now that is what I call a clean audit,” Board President Molly Malone said at the end of Graves’ presentation.
For last fiscal year, which ended in June, the combined ending fund balance of $19.7 million was $901,095 more than what the district had the previous year.
Its total fund balances at the end of the fiscal year, were $20.3 million, or six months worth of reserves.
“In this day and age, that is a healthy place to be,” Graves said.
Following the audit, principals from the elementary schools and the Rolla Middle School presented their school’s school improvement plans for the coming year.
There were a number of similar goals the principals each expressed, keeping up high attendance, and increasing technology use in the schools, but one goal stood out in each principal’s presentation — improving Missouri Assesment Program scores and the school’s plan to do that.
Dr. Susan Bowles, principal at Wyman Elementary listed moving 2 percent of students from the below basic and basic level to the proficient/advanced levels as one of the goals for her school.
Truman Elementary Principal Darlene Bramel said she hoped to move 10 percent of students up to higher levels of the MAP scale.
Principal Monica Davis, from the Middle School said the goal of her school was to meet or exceed the Adequate Yearly Progress standard, which Missouri increases every year.
“It’s not OK in the fact we are standing still,” Jim Pritchett said about his school’s performance last year in communication arts, in which Mark Twain’s performance was almost equal to the previous year.
