The Rolla cross country team ran in the Ozark Conference Championship on Saturday, Oct. 6. The girls team ran well to finish in fourth place, while the boys finished in eighth place as a unit.
Emma Puetz was the top finisher for the Lady Bulldogs. She finished in seventh place with a time of 22:01.29 to earn First Team All-Conference honors. Olivia Holmes and Aidan Scheffel then finished back to back in 15th and 16th with times of 23:13.03 and 23:32.39. The pair were All-Conference Honorable Mention, just missing the Second Team All-Conference cut-off, which was set at 14th place. Mercedez Carpenter finished in 40th for Rolla with a time of 26:36.7. Mary Romine placed 46th with a time of 27:42.51, Kate Campbell placed 48th with a time of 28:01.74 and Jesse Coverdell finished 53rd with a time of 31:35.99. Those finishes gave Rolla 116 team points to earn a fourth place finish. West Plains won with 18 team points, Kickapoo finished in second and Waynesville placed third.
The Bulldogs were led by a 21st place finish by Noah Crutcher. He crossed the finish line in 19:24.99 to earn All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition. Orion Parker and Wyatt Owens finished back to back in 42nd and 43rd with times of 21:04.65 and 21:08.24. Rolla then had Daniel Read and Johnathan Carlson finish in succession, placing 47th and 48th with times of 21:49.56 and 21:57.88. Justin McEnaney finished in 52nd with a time of 22:13.48 and Colton Holmes placed 61st with a time of 24:01.47. Those finishes gave Rolla 197 team points and an eighth place finish. Kickapoo won the event with 43 team points, while West Plains finished second with 46 team points.
"I am proud of the effort, sportsmanship, and attitudes that our Rolla Cross Country team shows week to week," said head coach Rhett Cook. "They bring everything they have every day and it is a joy to watch them run and improve."
Rolla had three competitors in the boys JV race. Tristan Lietz finished in 33rd with a time of 24:26.28. Johnny Swizdor placed 39th with a time of 24:51.99 and Kaleb Chiles finished 59th with a time of 28:29.84.
The Rolla Middle School girls also had an excellent showing on the day, finishing in sixth as a team thanks to two top five finishes. Izzy Frost and Bridget Ragan finished back to back in fourth and fifth with times of 10:22.02 and 10:36.84 in the 2,400m race. Kathryn Hirtz then placed 36th with a time of 12:28.30, Emma Allison placed 40th with a time of 12:41.51 and Ella Kuhlman finished 42nd with a time of 12:56.26.
The RMS boys had three competitors over the weekend. Wesley Wilson led the charge with a 35th place finish and a time of 10:44.68. Jeremiah Hower finished in 60th with a time of 11:25.63 and Lucas Johnson then finished in 106th with a time of 12:42.81.
Rolla followed the meet with a trip to Dixon on Monday, but results were not available at press time. Next up is a meet in Waynesville on Thursday.
