The Rolla cross country teams kicked off their 2018 season with the SWCCCA/Richard Clarke Meet on Saturday, Sept. 2. They ran into a little bus trouble, so the varsity girls missed out on their race, but they were able to run in the JV race to get their first competition of the season.

The boys varsity were able to run in the varsity race, finishing in 12th in the Class 4 division as a team. Noah Crutcher was the top finisher for Rolla, crossing the finish line in 26th place with a time of 18:21. Alex Frisbee finished in 46th with a time of 19:04.27. Wyatt Owens completed the race in 20:08.63 seconds to place 76th. Orion Parker finished in 93rd with a time of 20:51.88 and Daniel Read took 102nd with a time of 21:07.36 to round out the Rolla top five. Wyatt Thurston and Johnny Swizdor also ran the varsity race, finishing in 1222nd and 129th with times of 22:32.57 and 23:16.75, but only the top five runners counted towards the team score. Webb City won the event as a team with Nixa taking second and Kickapoo finishing in third.

Because the Lady Bulldog varsity missed out on their race, they ran in the JV race, which covered the same distance of 5,000m. The JV race was a mixed race, so the boys and girls teams ran in the same race.

As expected, Rolla dominated the JV race because their varsity girls ran the table. The top Lady Bulldogs of Emma Puetz and Aidan Sheffel finished in first and second place, respectively. Their times of 21:18.43 and 22:53.55 would've also placed them among the top Class 4 runners in the varsity race. Rolla then claimed the fourth and fifth place spots with Olivia Holmes finishing with a time of 23:31.37 and Mercedez Carpenter crossing the finish line with a time of 24:23.45. Mallory Moats rounded out the top five for scoring with a time of 28:15.43 to finish in 33rd. Rolla had several other excellent female competitors in the race. Jesse Coverdell took 35th in the race with a time of 28:44.41. Faith Aguilarleon finished in 39th with a time of 29:33.17. Kate Campbell and Jaden Bryce both finished in the low 40's in 42nd and 44th with times of 29:46.76 and 30:07.17. Mia Sperry and Isabella Alejandro rounded out the girls runners by finishing back to back in 58th and 59th with times of 34:25.16 and 34:27.85. The varsity runners carried Rolla to an easy JV team victory with four of the top five finishes in the race.

Jonathan Carlson was the top boys finisher in the JV race, crossing the line in 16th with a time of 20:57.92. Kendall Smith finished the race in 129th with a time of 26:46.42. Kaleb Chiles and John Lashley finished close together in 141st and 143rd with times of 28:13.3 and 29:16.57. John Bramer rounded out the boys JV with a time of 32:40.95. The JV boys finished in 13th place.
