The Newburg track team sent two competitors to the Class 1 State Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 18-19. They braved poor weather conditions, but fell just short of medals in the meet.

Macy Suschanke ran in two events at the meet, taking part in the 3,200m and 1,600m runs. Her best finish came in the 3,200m run, where she finished in ninth place. The freshman missed out on the medal stand by just one spot and 1.05 seconds. Suschanke finished with a time of 12:47.14. Suschanke also ran in the 1,600m run where she finished in 12th. She finished with a time of 5:58.72.

Jacob Russell then competed in the pole vault on Saturday. After weather caused some problems throughout the day, Russell was finally able to compete. He was able to clear 11' on the bar, which was tied for eighth. Unfortunately, he needed more attempts to clear the height and he finished in 10th place. Clearing on an earlier attempt would've given Russell the chance to medal.
