The Rolla soccer team (14-8) got a preview of next season's newest Ozark Conference opponent when they made the trip down to Springfield Central on Wednesday, May 9. The Lady Bulldogs were able to pull out a 2-1 victory in their second to last regular season game.
Rolla got their offense going in the seventh minute on a corner kick. Elsa Wise booted the ball near the net and Mercedez Carpenter was there to drop it in, giving Rolla a 1-0 lead. Central was able to tie things up in the 24th minute, but Carpenter wasn't done yet. She scored her second goal of the game with three minutes left in the opening half to give the Lady Bulldogs a lead they would not surrender. Both teams were held scoreless in the second half, giving Rolla a 2-1 victory.
The Lady Bulldogs outshot Central 11-7 and had the advantage in corners with four to Central's three.
“We played well enough to get out of Springfield with a win," said head coach Mike Howard of the win. "Central has had some very impressive scores this season. It was a tough well contested game for us."
Rolla finished off their regular season with a trip to Osage on Thursday, but results were not available at press time.
