The Newburg track team took part in their District meet at Russellville on Saturday, May 5. The Wolves were able to advance in seven events.

Macy Suschanke led the charge for Newburg, as she was a District Champion in both the 1,600m and 3,200m runs with times of 6:01.24 and 14:21. Suschanke nearly qualified in the 800m run, but missed out on the top four by just under a second.

The next multi-event qualifier was Jacob Russell, who qualified in three field events. Russell won the javelin by four inches with a throw of 139'5", before qualifying in two jumps. The senior took second in the pole vault by clearing 10' and took the final spot in the triple jump by placing fourth with a leap of 35'7.5". 

The final two qualifiers were Grace Affolter and Marah Suschanke. Affolter took second in the pole vault by clearing 7', while Suschanke took the fourth and final spot in the javelin with a throw of 95'3". 

Newburg also had a slew of close calls, as several Wolves came in fifth. Ethan Sanchez took fifth in the 110m hurdles, while Kaylee Skinner had the same finish in the 300m hurdles. Both the boys and girls 4x100 teams took fifth place to narrowly fall short. Sanchez also finished in fifth in the pole vault, missing out on Sectionals after losing the tiebreaker. Newburg added sixth place finishes from Gabe Killian in the discus and Alleyiah Dunham in the shot put.

The four Newburg qualifiers will travel to South Callaway for their Sectional on Saturday, May 12.
