The Rolla tennis team continued a busy week of tennis when they hosted Lebanon for a Ozark Conference matchup on Tuesday, April 10. A day after using singles to get a comeback win over Salem, the Bulldogs repeated the task against Lebanon for a 6-3 win.
Rolla got off to a rough start in doubles, dropping two of the three matches. The lone win came from Pranal Madria and Monty Jawad, who beat Cody Martin and Alex Santos 8-0. Blake Riedle and Ethan Walker lost to Bryson Crowell and Austin Hurney 8-5 at number one. Josiah Homan and Jacob Lenox then took an 8-3 loss to Graham Miller and Grant Weaver at number three.
Lebanon added to that lead at number one singles when Crowell beat Riedle 8-0, but after that it was all Rolla. Walker beat Hurney 8-3, Madria beat Martin 8-2, Micah Martin beat Weaver 8-3, Jawad shut out Miller 8-0 and Sean Kim held on for an 8-6 win over Santos to cap off a 6-3 win for Rolla.
Rolla earned JV wins from Ethan Wang, Joel Schott, Shane McEnaney and Owen Atkins.
It should be noted that Lebanon was without of several of their regular varsity due to a choir trip, but it was still an impressive comeback for Rolla. Head coach Joe Schisler was proud of their efforts.
I am proud of our guys stepping it up after a generally miserable start in doubles. We have to get to the point where we start at our level and play that way the entire match," said the Rolla head coach. "We are getting closer each day in many ways, I just hope there is enough fair weather to get us in shape for the end of season. We have three events each of the next two weeks leading into the conference tournament, so practice time is at a premium."
Rolla will have a week off before they host Houston on Tuesday, April 17.
