The Rolla tennis team traveled to Waynesville for a match on Thursday, March 22. The Bulldogs got out to a strong start in doubles, but faltered in singles in a 6-3 loss.
Rolla took the number one and number three doubles matches to kick off the night. Blake Riedle and Ethan Walker made quick work of William Sneed and Aarron Emperate 8-3 at number one, while Josiah Homan and Jacob Lennox were able to take down Caleb Andrews and Andrew Esguerra 8-5. Waynesville got the win at number two when Tyler Gayman and Cameron Martell beat Micah Bolton and Muntadher Jawad 8-2.
Rolla carried a 2-1 lead into singles, where Waynesville took over the match. Rolla got an 8-5 win from Homan over Esguerra at number six, but Waynesville managed to sweep the rest of the singles matches. Riedle took a tough 8-6 loss to Sneed at number one, while Sean Kim took a loss by the same score to Andrews at number five. Emperate beat Jawad 8-4, Martell beat Walker 8-2 and Gayman beat Martin 8-3.
"Waynesville has the makings of a great team," said Rolla head coach Joe Schisler after the match. "So strong in singles and doubles. Hats off to an awesome line-up."
Rolla will have some time off for Spring Break before a string of home matches. Their first home match will be against Hickman on Wednesday, April 4.
