PITTSBURG, Kan. – Missouri S&T's competitors at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships fell short of All-America honors Friday as they competed at the meet held at Pittsburg State University.
Amanda Wetzel (Keller, TX/Keller), who was in her third national meet and second indoors, ended up in tie for 16th place in the women's pole vault. She cleared the opening height of 11-8½, but missed on all three tries at 12-2½ to bow out of the competition.
Missouri Southern's Emily Presley captured the national title in the pole vault by clearing 13-10.
John Karsten (Jefferson City, MO/Blair Oaks HS), competing in his first national meet, finished 15th in the men's weight throw with a top mark of 58-10¼. After fouling on his first throw, Karsten had a mark of 56-10 ¾ on his second attempt and his best throw on his third, but not far enough to finish among the top nine after three attempts.
The men's weight throw was won by Findlay's Austin Combs with a throw of 68-10½, which he produced on his final attempt.
