The St. James boys basketball team (17-7, 4-2 FRC) traveled to Hermann for Four Rivers Conference matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The Tigers built a small lead through the first three quarters, before burying Hermann in the fourth for a 61-39 win.
St. James got out to a solid start with 13 points in the opening quarter. Ryan Harlan knocked down a three and scored five points, while Carter Keeney led the way with six points of his own. Hermann was able to keep pace with 13 points, but after that, St. James took control of the game.
The Tiger defense came out strong in the second, holding Hermann to just six points in the quarter. Offensively, St. Jamess kept their pace with another 11 points, six of which came from Bailey Terrill in the paint. The defensive effort helped give the Tigers a 24-19 lead at the half.
St. James kept adding to their lead in the third quarter, as they went off for 18-points in the frame. Five different Tigers scored, with Keeney leading the charge with six points. Ivan Fuhring chipped in another five, while Tyler Recker added four points, as St. James went into the fourth with a 42-32 lead.
The Tigers put the game away in the fourth with another outstanding defensive effort. Hermann scored just seven points in the fourth quarter, while St. James just kept scoring. Six different Tigers scored, as St. James went off for 19 points in the final frame. Terrill added another five points, Andrew Branson came in to score four points off the bench and Harlan chipped in with four more. The big fourth quarter on both sides of the ball helped St. James finish off a 61-39 win.
Keeney led all scorers with 14 points, Harlan added another 12, Terrill scored 11 and Ivan Fuhring chipped in with 10, as four of the five St. James starters were in double figures. Recker added another nine points off the bench for the Tigers.
The Tiger JV also took home a victory on Tuesday night 60-44. Isaac Helterbrand and Logan Chick each scored 16 points in the victory.
St. James will return home for their regular season finale and Senior Night on Friday, Feb. 16. The Tigers will honor their six seniors prior to a matchup with St. Clair.
The Tigers' District seeding has also been announced. St. James is the third seed in the District and will face off agains Hermann yet again in the first round of Districts on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
