WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's track & field team got a winning performance from Alex Staples (River Forest, IL/Oak Park River Forest) in the 800-meters Saturday and a pair of second place finishes to highlight the day at the Mule Relays at the University of Central Missouri.

Staples won the 800-meters with a time of 1:57.60, winning by better than three seconds over Jacob Weber of Central Missouri.  The Miners also got a second place finishes from Jimmie Washington (Missouri City, TX/Dulles) in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.77 seconds and Collin Boner (Cape Girardeau, MO/Notre Dame Regional HS) in the high jump as he cleared 6-4, while Duncan Clark (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville)had a third place showing in the 3,000-meters in 9:06.06.

Justin Hawkins (O'Fallon, IL/Montrose) placed fourth in the 800-meters in 2:03.72 as did Andrew Scherff (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell North HS) in the pole vault at 14-7¼ and Ty Conley in the long jump with a leap of 21-5, while Ezekiel Buck (Elburn, IL/Geneva) finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.91 seconds; Buck also had a seventh place performance in the high jump with a clearance of six feet.

Luke Allen (Jefferson City, MO/Calvary Lutheran) had a fifth place performance in the triple jump at 43-9¾, just ahead of teammate Bailey Crone (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville)'s mark of 43-7¼.  Crone also took sixth in the long jump at 20-10 and Wil Crutcher (Rolla, MO/Rolla) was sixth in the mile with a time of 4:34.80.

Garrett Miller (Kearney, MO/Kearney) posted a seventh place effort in the shot put with a mark of 45-8½ and Garrett Friday (New Market, MD/Oakdale HS) was seventh in the weight throw at 52-1, while Garrett Blanchard (Centralia, IL/Centralia) took ninth in the 3,000-meters in 9:12.25 and Justin Murdock (Camdenton, MO/Camdenton) did likewise in the shot at 44-1½.

Conley was 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 41-1¾ as was Matt Weston in the shot put at 43-4½.

Missouri S&T's next competition is slated to take place next Friday and Saturday at Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo.
