On January 16, 2018 at approximately 1:15 am, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department investigated a shooting incident in the 10000 block of County Road 2080. The victim, William Lee Dale, age 39 of Rolla, was shot in the upper torso by a resident of the home.

On January 16, 2018 at approximately 1:15 am, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department investigated a shooting incident in the 10000 block of County Road 2080. 

The victim, William Lee Dale, age 39 of Rolla, was shot in the upper torso by a resident of the home.  The reporting party said William Lee Dale unlawfully entered the residence, and assaulted a male subject.  They indicated they feared for their life, and used lethal force.  William Lee Dale was pronounced dead on the scene by Phelps County Coroner, Andy Davis.

An autopsy was performed on January 18, 2018.  The cause of death was due to a single gunshot wound to the chest.

A joint investigation by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Phelps County Coroner, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol into this death is on-going.
