On scene seven minutes after the initial call, Command 1391 and Command 1392 arrived at 9:27 p.m. and reported a fully involved residential structure that was already collapsed.
The fatal fire in Richland was ruled undetermined following an investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshall's Office, though there was nothing suspicious found.
Missouri Department of Public Safety spokesman Mike O'Connell said that the undetermined finding is not unusual in cases like this, as the destruction is too extensive to pinpoint a likely origin.
The small farmhouse was heated by both oil and wood stoves, and the blaze destroyed the home. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
