The St. James wrestling team took part in a quad at St. Clair on Tuesday, Jan. 9 that included the host school, Principia and MICDS. All four teams had a number of openings, but the only close match of the night came between St. James and St. Clair, which the host won 38-36.
The Tigers had a quick dual against MICDS, as only one match wrestled.. They then beat Principia 54-24 in a dual where there were five matches. St. James won all five matches, on pins with Jaden Settle, Thomas Henderson, Zach Woodson, Cort Petty and Drake Ortiz earning victories.
The dual with St. Clair also saw several openings for each team, as St. James has been dealt a handful of injuries over their last few events. St. James won three matches thanks to open slots during the dual, while St. Clair won four. That extra open for the Tigers proved to be the difference maker.
Of the actual matches, Kaylynn Crocker kicked things off with a win for St. James by pinning Cody Armistead in the second period. St. Clair came back with a pin of their own when Dalton Thompson took down Settle. Jason Landing then beat Mikey Crocker on a 9-2 decision. St. James got another win when Henderson pinned Brandon Lackey McDowell at the end of the second period.
St. James was then open at the next three weights, before the Tigers got a 17 second pin from Zach Woodson. The last match of the night came when Aaron Herman beat Cole Petty on a pin in the second period. St. James took the next two weights on opens, but lost the match when they were open at heavyweight to give the Bulldogs a 39-36 win.
The Tigers will wrestle at the Owensville Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 13.
