With help from their grandson Chase Day, Ted and Kim Day recently presented their second yearly installment on a $50,000 donation to the New Rolla Animal Shelter Project on behalf of the late Shirley Day.  The donation will provide for the "Shirley Day Adoption Room".  The Days chose to make their donation with a three year pledge.  The donation is the largest private donation to the New Animal Shelter Project since the late Mr. Bob Eck donated $441,000 through his estate.  The donations, along with hundreds of smaller donations, have provided $625,000 towards the $1.2 million capital campaign.

For the past 45 years, the Rolla Animal Shelter on Sharp Rd. has effectively served the Rolla/Phelps County region.  Unfortunately the building lacks many of the amenities considered standard in today's animal care.  The new 6,500 sq. ft. facility will provide indoor/outdoor dog kennel runs, upgraded ventilation systems, proper drainage, improved cat cages and play areas, adoption rooms, and quarantine areas - all facilities lacking in the old Shelter.

Donations for the capital campaign or for endowment (estate giving) can be provided to Meramec Regional Community Foundation c/o SAVE -  New Animal Shelter Capacity Fund at #4 Industrial Drive, St. James, MO  65559 or to the City of Rolla c/o SAVE at PO Box 979, Rolla, MO  65402.  For information or inquiries, please contact John Butz, Rolla City Administrator at (573)426-6948.  Additional information or on-line giving is available through www.saverollaanimals.org.
