Rolla, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball coach Alan Eads announced the signing of two players for his 2018-19 recruiting class on Friday. The newcomers are Alex Kerr and Michaela Davis.
"We're losing four seniors after this year and we felt we needed to sign a point guard and a post player," Eads said. "We expect both of this kids to step in and contribute for us next year."
Kerr, a 6-3, post player from St. Joseph's Academy in St. Louis, Mo., averaged 12.3 points and 9.0 rebounds for the Angels during her junior season. She helped lead her squad to a 20-10 record and a fourth place finish in the Missouri Class 5 Tournament. She scored in double figures 21 times and scored a season-high 22 points against Battle on 11-of-16 shooting from the field. Kerr also had 12 games in which she recorded double figure rebounding totals. Kerr was named to the all-tournament team at the Rock Holiday Classic in Orlando, Fla., last season.
"Alex plays on a very good St. Joseph's Academy team," he said. "She's got good length, size and is a strong kid. She's also a strong academic kid and I'm looking forward to working with her at the center position."
Davis, a 5-4, combo guard from Keokuk, Iowa, helped lead the Chiefs to a 17-7 record and a second place finish in the Southeast Conference. Last season, she led her team in scoring with 11.7 points per contest. She also averaged 1.9 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.1 assists per game. She is a three time first team all-conference selection, two time first team All-Hawkeye, all-region, Iowa Associated Press All-State and a two-time third team all-state selection.
"She can play either the one or two guard spot but is probably more of a point guard," he said. "She's very athletic and quick with the ball in her hands. She can shoot the three and is just a good athlete overall. She had offers to play Division I softball."
