Jefferson City, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's basketball team improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2014-15 with a 72-57 win over Lincoln on Tuesday night at Jason Gymnasium in Jefferson City, Mo. Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) and Michelle Borgen (Tinley Park, Illinois/Andrew) led S&T with 15 points each while Joe'l Bland (St. Charles, Mo./Homeschooled) added 10 off the bench.

The Lady Miners fell behind 4-0 in the first 0:40 but a 9-2 over the next 1:30 gave them a 9-6 advantage. The Blue Tigers (1-2) used a 7-0 run over the next four minutes to regain their four point lead but S&T ended the quarter getting three-pointers from Raley and Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) to give them a 15-13 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

S&T stretched its lead to five points midway through the second quarter but were unable to shake Lincoln as it came back to tie the game at 25 after a layup by Alecia Kaelke with 4:21 left in the half. The Lady Miners regained their lead on a layup from Jordan Kabetske (Republic, Mo./Republic) on the next possession and then extended it to four after a pair of free throws by Michelle Borgen (Tinley Park, Illinois/Andrew) with 1:42 left in the half. The Blue Tigers cut the deficit to only two points when Citlali Lopez hit a layup with 1:17 left in the half. Both teams had chances for more in the final 60 seconds of the half but turned it over which allowed S&T to head into the locker room with a 29-27 advantage.

The Lady Miners shot 38 percent (9-for-24) from the floor in the opening half, were 3-of-4 from the three-point line and hit all eight of their free throw attempts. Raley and Borgen had eight points to lead S&T while Kabetske added six.

Lincoln finished the first 20 minutes shooting 39 percent (12-for-31) from the field, were 3-of=12 from downtown and didn't attempt a free throw. Lopez led all scorers with 10 points while Lajanea Kimbrouh and Bre Coleman had six points each.

The Lady Miners opened the third quarter on a 14-4 run getting four points each from Borgen and Ashley Harvey (Raytown, Mo./Raytown) while Raley added three to extend their lead to 43-31 nearly six minutes into the quarter. The Blue Tigers cut the deficit to 44-37 with less than two minutes to go after a layup by Kimbrough but S&T closed the quarter out strong by scoring the final eight points.

The Lady Miners shot 57 percent from the floor in the frame and outscored Lincoln 23-10.

S&T led by as many as 18 points in the final quarter and never let Lincoln get closer than 12 points the rest of the contest.

The Lady Miners finished the game shooting 49 percent (25-for-51) from the floor, was 4-of-6 from three and shot 75 percent (18-for-24) from the foul line. Kim Runge (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) finished a rebound shy of her third straight double figure rebounding game with nine. S&T finished with a 34-31 advantage on the glass and had a 10-8 advantage in assists.

Lincoln shot just 38 percent (23-for-60) from the field, was 5-of-17 from the three-point line and shot 75 percent at the foul line. Lopez was the lone Blue Tiger to reach double figures with 12 points while Kimbrough and Robin Butler had eight points each.

The Lady Miners play their final game before the Thanksgiving holiday against Missouri Valley this Saturday at 1 p.m.
