ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T midfielder David Murphy (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) has been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America academic all-district men's soccer team for the 2017 season, making him eligible for Academic All-America honors when that squad is announced next month.
Murphy, a junior at Missouri S&T and one of five players from the Great Lakes Valley Conference selected to the all-region team, earned his first All-GLVC honor this season as a third-team selection as a midfielder after scoring seven times with five assists for 19 points during the 2017 campaign.
Two of his seven goals were been game-winners this year, one in a win over Quincy in late September which led to him also earning GLVC player of the week honors and the other in the last game the Miners won this season, an overtime triumph in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament when the Miners defeated top-seeded Rockhurst.
Murphy scored on 15.9 percent of his shot attempts this season, the highest percentage of success for a Miner with at least 20 shots taken.
The academic all-district squad Murphy was named to include players from the GLVC, Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
