Rolla, Mo. – Missouri S&T's volleyball team dropped its home finale to Rockhurst in straight sets on Tuesday evening at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. Ellen Schulz (Wildwood, Mo./Eureka) led S&T with nine kills while Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) added eight.

The Miners led by as many as six in the opening set but the Hawks (25-6, 13-4 GLVC) came back to tie the set at 19 but S&T quickly went back ahead with back-to-back points to make it 21-19. The Miners led late in the set at 22-21 but gave up four of the final five points of the set to fall 25-23. S&T finished the set registering 14 kills and hit .243 for the frame. Schlader and Calla Meyer (Clackamas, Ore./Clackamas) led the way for the Miners with four kills each in the set.

S&T led 5-4 in the second set but a 6-0 run by Rockhurst gave them a lead it wouldn't relinquish. The Miners closed the deficit to three on a couple of occasions but were unable to get any closer as the Hawks closed out the set on a 12-3 run. Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) had four of S&T's 10 kills in the stanza. The Miners were unable to slow down the duo of Alyssa Woodman and Emily Kriete who combined for 11 of Rockhurst's 16 kills.

The Hawks jumped out to an early four point lead in set three but S&T was able to cut the deficit to 9-7 after a kill from Kyley Thompson (Geneva, Ill./Geneva). Rockhurst then began to pull away thanks to an 8-2 run behind three kills from Kriete and two more from Karli Reichert. The Miners tried to chip away at the deficit getting to within 18-15 after a kill from Meyer but the Hawks were able to hold off the rally scoring seven of the last nine points to win 25-17.

S&T finished the contest with an attack percentage of .242 and recorded 37 kills in the match. Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside) handed out 19 assists and served three aces while Lauren Flowers(Ballwin, Mo./Lafayette) finished with 10 digs.

Rockhurst hit over 40 percent for the match recording 49 kills against 10 errors in 97 chances. Kriete finished with a match-high 14 kills while Woodman added 13. Grace Carter dished out 28 assists and Anne Hellwege had 14 digs.

The Miners (9-20, 2-14 GLVC) close out their 2017 season this weekend with a pair of road matches at Truman State and William Jewell.
