SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri S&T had two first place finishes and several others among the top five Saturday as it placed third in the two-day Drury Invitational.
The Miners, who also had one first place performance during Friday's competition, finished third in the team standings in a battle with Lindenwood – who ended up winning with 993 points – and Drury, as all three finished well ahead of Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville. The Miners recorded 836 points in the two-day meet.
In Saturday's competition, the Miners got a first place performance from its 800-yard freestyle relay team of Kevin McPherson (Oakdale, MN/Tartan), Jared Dachroeden (St. Louis, MO/Parkway North), Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset) and Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston) in 6:54.03, as well as on an individual basis by Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier) in the 200-yard butterfly as he posted a time of 1:51.36 to edge Lindenwood's Matheus Isidro by 0.47 seconds.
The Miners had a second place showing from its 200-yard medley relay team of Ethan Shih (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista), Nielsen, Taske and Chris Betts (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch) with a time of 1:34.71, as well as a third place effort in the 400-freestyle relay from the team of Nielsen, McPherson, Betts and Meyer in 3:05.75.
Tim Sam uelsen had a runner-up performance in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:33.56, while S&T had four of the top six finishers in the 100-butterfly, led by Taske's third place finish in 50.61 seconds. Shih was fourth in 51.18, while Nielsen placed fifth in 51.24 seconds and Meyer sixth in 51.57.
McPherson finished in third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.54 as did Nielsen in the 100-backstroke in 47.38 seconds. S&T had fourth place showing from Dachroeden in the 200-freestyle in 1:44.50, Dylan Friesz (Round Rock, TX/Hutto) in the 100-backstroke in 1:54.74, Betts in the 100-backstroke in 47.88 and Shih in the 200-butterfly in 1:55.27.
Stuart Mossop (Houston, TX/James E. Taylor) finished just outside the top five in the 400-individual medley with a sixth place time of 4:16.12 as did Alejandro Chavez(Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegiao de Bachilles) in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:11.52 that also placed him sixth.
The Miners' next competition will take place when they host the Miner Invitational on Nov. 17 and 18 at the S&T Pool.
