INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Missouri S&T had two players named Thursday night to the Great Lakes Valley Conference's all-league team in men's soccer, as Felipe Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/) and David Murphy (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) were both honored by the league on the eve of the GLVC semifinals.
Andrade earned first-team honors for the third consecutive year as he currently leads the Miners with nine goals and 22 points. Named earlier this week as the GLVC's player of the week, Andrade has scored four goals and added an assist in S&T's last two games, a win over Wisconsin-Parkside in which he recorded the team's first hat trick in 11 years and a victory over top-seeded Rockhurst in the opening round of the tournament to send the Miners into the semifinals.
Andrade, who is third on the Missouri S&T career lists for goals with 28 and points with 70, had the Miners' first goal in the win at Rockhurst Sunday and later assisted on Murphy's game-winning goal in overtime.
Murphy earned his first All-GLVC honor as a third-team selection as a midfielder after scoring seven times with five assists for 19 points during the 2017 campaign. Two of his seven goals have been game-winners this year, the goal on Sunday and one in a win over Quincy in late September which led to him also earning GLVC player of the week honors.
He has scored on 16.7 percent of his shot attempts this season, the highest percentage of success for a Miner with at least 20 shots taken.
Missouri S&T, 8-6-3 on the season, will take on Indianapolis in the semifinals on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (Central time) at Carroll Stadium on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis.
In addition to the two All-GLVC honors given out Thursday night, S&T goalkeeper Aaron Hohenstein (St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South) was named as the team's nominee for the James R. Spalding sportsmanship award, which makes him eligible to become on the school's two award winners that will be announced at the end of the current academic year.
