ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T forward Felipe Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/), who recorded the first hat trick by a Miner soccer player since 2006 last week, was named today as the Great Lakes Valley Conference's offensive player of the week for the final week of the regular season.
Andrade recorded three goals in the Miners' regular season finale, a 4-4 tie with Wisconsin-Parkside, as he scored twice in the first 11 minutes of action and then completed his hat trick in the 75th minute with a goal that tied the contest at four. With the game eventually ending in a tie, the third goal scored by Andrade gave the Miners the final spot in the GLVC Tournament field as the No. 8 seed.
As a result of his three-goal effort, Andrade also moved into third place on the Missouri S&T career lists for goals (27) and assists (67) and he currently leads the Miners with nine goals and 22 points on the year.
Although Sunday's opening round GLVC Tournament game was not factored into this week's player of the week selection, Andrade had a goal and assisted on David Murphy(Naperville, IL/Naperville Central)'s game-winning tally in overtime as the Miners knocked off top-seeded Rockhurst 3-2 to advance to the semifinals for the second time in three years.
Missouri S&T will play Indianapolis in the GLVC semifinals Friday at 8:30 p.m. (Eastern time) at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis on the IUPUI campus.
