For the second year in a row, the Rolla football team is headed to a District Championship game. The Bulldogs were able to best Parkway West, whom they played in last year's title game, 26-21 on Friday, Oct. 27. Rolla got another outstanding performance from senior quarterback Josh Pritchett, who had a combined four touchdowns in the victory.
The Bulldogs dominated the first half of the contest, scoring three unanswered touchdowns. Pritchett got things started with a one-yard run mid-way through the first quarter before hitting Blaize Klossner on a 35-yard strike with 1:37 left in the opening frame. The extra point was missed on the second touchdown, but Rolla still ended the quarter with a 13-0 lead. Pritchett then scored his second rushing touchdown of the game when he punched in another one-yard score in the final minute of the second quarter. The point after was missed after that touchdown as well, but Rolla went into the half with a commanding 19-0 lead.
Parkway West started to make a comeback in the second half when Clayton Jensen caught an eight-yard touchdown from Colin Krewson for the only touchdown of the quarter. Hermauhn Faulkner then punched in a one-yard score early in the fourth to cut the Bulldogs lead to 19-14, but Rolla only needed a minute to respond before Pritchett found Brett Gonzalez for a 52-yard bomb to stretch the lead back out to 26-14. Krewson hit Lance Anderson for a 17-yard touchdown in the final minute of the game, but it was too little too late as the Bulldogs sealed a 26-21 victory.
Pritchett was everywhere for Rolla, throwing for 170 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, while adding another 100 yards and two scores on the ground. Blaize Klossner was his biggest target in the passing game, collecting seven passes for 92 yards and a touchdown, while Brett Gonzalez added two catches for 69 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Josh and Colton Morris tied for the team lead in tackles with 17 a piece. Klossner added 14 tackles, one of which was for a loss. Colton Franks was the final Bulldog in double digits with 13 tackles. Rolla also did a great job of getting to the quarterback with four sacks and five quarterback hurries. Isaiah Thompson, Justin Briggs, Spiro Makridis and Ahmed Boubacar each had a sack in the victory, while Thompson also added three quarterback hurries and Makridis and Ryan Smith each added one. Klossner was a machine for the Bulldogs, adding an interception to his already full stat line, while Trey Quick snagged a pick of his own. In addition to getting to the quarterback, Thompson recovered one of two fumbles for the Bulldogs, while Elijah Young picked up the second. Colton Morris was credited with a forced fumble as a part of his 17 tackles.
The Bulldogs will have to head back down 44 for their District Championship game, but this time they'll make the quicker trip down to Washington to face off against Borgia on Friday, Nov. 3.
