The Missouri S&T Lady Miners open their 2017-18 schedule with an exhibition contest against St. Louis College of Pharmacy this Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
The Lady Miners return six players off of last year's team that went 10-16, 5-13 led by senior guard Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) who averaged 10.8 points per game. Also returning is Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) who emerged as one of the top three-point shooters in the conference connecting on 40.7 percent of her attempts from the three-point line. S&T is looking forward to getting back Bria Pierce (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North) after she missed all of last year due to injury. Pierce averaged 11.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game during her sophomore season.
The Lady Miners will have seven new faces on their roster this season led by junior-college transfers Michelle Borgen (Tinley Park, Illinois/Andrew) and Ashley Harvey(Raytown, MO/Raytown). Borgen averaged nearly 26 points 11 rebounds per game at Moraine Valley last season while Harvey averaged 10 points and eight rebounds before suffering a season ending injury while playing for Penn Valley. Another new face joining the team is freshman Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township). Durk averaged nearly 15 points, four points and over two assists per game at O'Fallon Township high school.
St. Louis College of Pharmacy opened its season this past Sunday with an 89-69 win over Culver-Stockton College in an exhibition contest in St. Louis. The Eutectic got off to a sluggish start but finished the first quarter with an 18-12 lead. The Euts got going in the next two quarters outscoring the Wildcats 56-32 to take a 30-point cushion into the fourth quarter.
Allison Dewald and Morgan Rose led the Euts' offense with 22 points each. Dewald went 7-for-7 at the line and racked up 10 assists and three steals in the contest. Rose matched Gabrielle Morgan and Morgan Dermody with eight rebounds each.
