The #20 Miner swim team hosted #6 Delta for their home opener on Friday, Oct. 20 before making the trip to Lindenwood on Saturday, Oct. 21. S&T found a boatload of success, taking down Delta and capturing four wins at Lindenwood.
Missouri S&T won six of the 11 events Friday evening and won a dual meet between two teams ranked in the College Swimming Coaches Association's pre-season top 25, as the 20th-ranked Miners were victorious by a count of 119-86 over sixth-ranked Delta State at the S&T Pool.
S&T got two individual wins from Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS)as he captured the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:37.88 and later the 500-freestyle in 4:41.12. Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston) won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.54 seconds and the Miners also got event vicgtories from Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset) in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:52.78, Ethan Shih(Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista) in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.16,
The Miners capped the night by winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:07.19 behind the quartet of Nielsen, Kevin McPherson, Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier) and Meyer.
Taske had second place showings in the 1,000-freestyle in 9:44.77 and in the 200-butterfly in 1:54.52, as was McPherson in the 200-freestyle in 1:43.96, Meyer in the 100-freestyle in 46.53 seconds, Jared Dachroeden (St. Louis, MO/Parkway North) in the 200-backstroke in 1:55.10 and Joshua Umrysh (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) in the 200-breaststroke in 2:10.08
The Miners' team of Stuart Mossop (Houston, TX/James E. Taylor), Umrysh, Shih and Nielsen finished second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:27.27.
S&T got a third place finish from both of its second relay teams, as the 400-medley group of Dylan Friesz (Round Rock, TX/Hutto), Alex Chavez, Colten Becker (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) and Dachroeden finished in 3:34.69 and the 400-freestyle team of John-Martin Schmidt (Topeka, KS/Hayden), Chris Betts (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch), Shih and Dachroeden finished in 3:09.83.
Other third place showings Friday came from John-Martin Schmidt (Topeka, KS/Hayden) in the 200-freestyle in 1:45.87, Chris Betts (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch) in the 50-freestyle in 21.63 seconds, Mossop in the 200-IM in 1:57.82, Becker in the 100-freestyle in 48.04 seconds, Friesz in the 200-backstroke in 1:58.53 and Alex Chavez in the 200-breaststroke in 2:10.50.
Competing for the second time in as many days, MissourI S&T's swimming team had four winning performances and took one of the head-to-head competitions Saturday at the Lindenwood Quad held at the St. Peters Rec Plex.
The 20th-ranked Miners dropped the dual meet with host and fifth-ranked Lindenwood 136-94 and were edged by sixth-ranked Delta State 121.5-114.5, but did get the better of William Jewell by a count of 155-49.
Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS) had winning performance in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events for the second time in as many days, winning the 1,000 by nearly eight seconds with a time of 9:34.06, while capturing the 500 by just over a second over Lindenwood's Cristian Vasquez.
Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston) also picked up wins in back-to-back days in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.97 seconds and anchored the Miners' winning performance in the 200-freestyle relay that won in 1:23.57. Meyer was joined by Kevin McPherson(Oakdale, MN/Tartan), Chris Betts (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch) and Colten Becker (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) in that winning effort.
Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset) came in second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:43.01, as did Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier) in the 100-yard butterly in 50.48 seconds.
The Miners got a third place showing from its 200-yard medley relay team of Ethan Shih(Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista), Nielsen, Taske and Betts in a time of 1:34.13, while Betts had an individual third place finish in the 50-freestyle in 21.36 seconds, along with Shih in the 100-butterfly in 50.63 seconds and Meyer in the 100-freestyle in 46.02 seconds.
Fourth place finishes came from Stuart Mossop (Houston, TX/James E. Taylor) was fourth in the 400-individual medley in 4:14.59 and McPherson in the 100-freestyle in 46.65 seconds. McPherson also had a fifth place finish in the 1,000-freestyle in 9:56.83, as did Nielsen in the 100-butterfly in 51.09 seconds, John-Martin Schmidt (Topeka, KS/Hayden) in the 500-freestyle in 4:48.43 and Joshua Umrysh (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) in the 100-breaststroke in 58.67 seconds.
Missouri S&T's next competition will take place Nov. 3 at the Drury Invitational in Springfield, Mo.
