ROLLA, Mo. – For the second week in succession, a Missouri S&T player has earned Great Lakes Valley Conference honors as defensive back Roderick Chapman (Los Angeles, CA/Jefferson) was named as the league's special teams player of the week.
Chapman had 78 yards in kick returns in the Miners' 37-3 win Saturday at Lincoln and an additional 67 yards on two interception returns – including one brought back for a touchdown -- in the contest. He ran back two kickoffs for 56 yards, including one back into Lincoln territory to set up a touchdown drive as well as a punt return for 22 yards.
He accounted for the Miners' second score in the first four minutes of play Saturday when he returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown and recorded his second interception later in the first half on a Lincoln pass attempt to the end zone, which was returned to the Miner 35-yard line.
In addition to the interceptions and return efforts, Chapman also had one tackle on defense and a pass breakup in the game.
Chapman, who has two returns for touchdowns this season, is the third Miner to earn GLVC player of the week honors this season following kicker Ben Styron (Harrisonville, MO/Harrisonville) and running back Deshawn Jones (Olympia Fields, IL/Rich Central).
The Miners will host McKendree Saturday in a 7 p.m. contest at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
