The Rolla cross country team ran in the Waynesville Invitational on Thursday, Oct. 12. Rolla had a phenomenal meet, earning a total of 14 medals between the varsity and JV races, while winning the varsity girls race by claiming the top three spots.
Emma Puetz set the tone for the girls by finishing the two mile race in just 12:15 to win the race. Right behind her were Olivia Holmes and Krista Holmes, who finished in second and third. Holmes finished in 13:04, while Hilmas was seconds behind her in 13:12. Rolla medaled with all five of their varsity runners, as Visahka Ho and Kate Campbell each had top 15 finishes. Ho and Campbell finished side by side in 11th and 12th with the same time of 14:37. Those finishes gave the Lady Bulldogs an easy team victory with 29 team points. They beat second place Parkview by 23 points.
The girls' medal streak continued in the JV race. The Lady Bulldogs only had two runners in the JV race, but both medaled in the 5,000 meter race. Faith Aguilarleon finished in 10th with a time of 26:57, while Emma Starns finished in 13th with a time of 27:41. Because they only had two runners, the Lady Bulldogs did not have a team score in the JV race.
The boys were also fantastic in the race. Rolla's top four runners in the varsity boys' race all medaled, led by Alex Frisbee finished the two mile race in 10:58 to place sixth. Noah Crutcher just missed a top 10 spot by finishing in 11th with a time of 11:22. Brandon Burris finished in 15th with a time of 11:34, while Kylan Hunn rounded out the medalists in 24th with a time of 11:57. Rolla had four other varsity runners in the boys' race. Charlie Roberts finished in 33rd with a time of 12:47, Charles Victor finished in 35rd with a time of 13:03, Tristan Lietz finished in 41st with a time 14:28 and Kaleb Chiles finished in 42nd with a time of 15:46. Rolla finished in fifth place as a team behind fellow Ozark Conference schools Parkview, Glendale, Waynesville and Lebanon, who finished in that order. Rolla was just one point behind Lebanon and two points behind Waynesville.
The JV boys added three more medals to Rolla's count as a team. Wyatt Owens won the JV boys' race with a time of 19:59 in the 5,000 meter race. Daniel Read finished in 11th with a time of 21:45, while Johnnie Swizdor earned Rolla's final medal with a 13th finish and a time of 22:04. Riley Troup finished in 38th with a time of 25:59 and Wesley Sutton finished in 42nd with a time of 27:53.
The meet was Rolla's final race of the regular season. The Waynesville Invitational saw Rolla win their fifth championship of the season, sixth trophy plaque and brought their total medal count to 87 on the season. Next up for Rolla is a trip to Nixa for their District meet on Saturday, Oct. 21.
