A Catawissa, Mo. man suffered moderate injuries in a one-vehicle accident on I-44, just east of the 189 mile marker in Phelps County, at 3:05 a.m., early Sunday morning. He was later arrested and charged with four counts.

A Catawissa, Mo. man suffered moderate injuries in a one-vehicle accident on I-44, just east of the 189 mile marker in Phelps County, at 3:05 a.m., early Sunday morning. The accident occurred when the 1999 Chevrolet S10 driven by 52 year-old Kevin L. Karnes, traveled off of the left side of the roadway and struck a guard rail. The truck came to a rest in the separator between the east and west-bound lanes of I-44. Karnes was taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center by Phelps County Ambulance. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and it is not known if Karnes was wearing his seatbelt.
He was arrested and charged at 4:18 a.m. for driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia - prior, possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana and careless and imprudent driving involving an accident. He was taken to the Phelps County Jail and later released.
