The Rolla soccer team (15-3) hosted Springfield Central for an early afternoon game on Thursday, Oct. 5.

After a lot of rain for two straight days, the Bulldogs needed to use the football field to get their match in, but had to move the time up to 2 p.m. to accommodate schedules. After playing a long game against Glendale the night before, Rolla was tired, but they still managed to control the contest in a 4-0 win over Central.

Restarts played a major roll for Rolla in the victory, as Nick Janke got his head in the game. The senior captain knocked in two headers on corner kicks in the 27th and 54th minutes, both off assists from Gabe Stanislawski. Jarret Gabriele matched him in the goal category, striking twice in the 43rd and 59th minutes to seal the victory.

Drew Blair recorded the 34th shutout of his career. He is now one shutout away from tying Ryan Farrar's school record, which was earned from 2000 to 2003.

"We looked very tired from the game against Glendale. We played well enough to get a good result, but we will take Friday off to try to get our legs back for the Pacific game," said head coach Mike Howard. "Next week we have four very tough games, the first two on the road. So it will be a big week for us here at the end of the regular season."

After the day off on Friday, Rolla will play at Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 7.
