The Rolla volleyball team (16-11-3, 4-5 OC) traveled to Hillcrest for an Ozark Conference matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Rolla won the matchup in straight sets, which helped the Lady Bulldogs earn the third seed in their District behind Lebanon and Willard.
The freshmen started the night with a loss in straight sets 14-25, 17-25. The JV then had a great matchup with Hillcrest, but lost in three sets 12-25, 25-15, 17-25.
The varsity had an up and down matchup against Hillcrest, but they finished on a high note. After getting out to an early lead, the Lady Bulldogs let Hillcrest back into the game. Rolla finished the first set strong, however, taking the set 25-22. The second set's score looked similar, but the Lady Bulldogs controlled the set from jump street on their way to a 25-19 win to take the match.
Megan Brown led the team in kills with eight in the win. She also added two blocking assists and five digs. Shelby Ply had a stellar all around games with seven kills, two aces, 10 total blocks and five digs. Rebecca Janke added five kills and four block assists. Sophie Parsons led the team in assists with 15, while chipping in two aces and three digs. Loran Pritchett led the team in digs with eight, while adding seven assists, two kills, an ace and a block assist.
The win was Rolla's final chance to move up in the District after the seeding decision was made on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The Lady Bulldogs still have three regular season matches left, but they will see Hillcrest in the first round of Districts on Monday, Oct. 16. Next up for Rolla is a matchup against Waynesville for Senior Night on Thursday, Oct. 5.
