The Rolla softball team (3-21) hosted the Rolla Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29-30. Rolla went 1-3 over the weekend in the tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the tournament against the tournament's top seed, Sullivan. Bailey Pierce toed the rubber for Rolla, pitching four innings and allowing 14 runs, one of which was unearned. Sullivan recorded 12 hits and walked five times. Emalee Grooms went 2-3 out of the leadoff spot for Rolla, smacking a double and scoring twice. Maycie Montgomery was also 2-3 with a double, scoring a run and driving one un. Kristynn Hufford went 2-3 as well.
That loss sent Rolla into a matchup with Marshfield Friday night. Grooms took over on the mound for the Lady Bulldogs, allowing 15 runs, 10 of which were earned, in a 15-2 loss. She allowed 11 hits, walked four, hit four and struck out three. Alexa Foltz and Alex Kitchens each scored a run in the loss.
Rolla then played Salem to start their day on Saturday. Salem won the matchup 15-0 in three innings. Pierce pitched the first two innings to take the loss, allowing nine runs, eight of which were earned, on six hits, five walks and six strikeouts. Grooms pitched the final inning, allowing the final six runs on seven hits, two walks and a strikeout. Cheyanne King and Hannah Beucler had Rolla's only two hits.
Rolla was able to end their tournament with a victory over Belle. Grooms pitched again for the Lady Bulldogs, allowing six runs on six hits, two walks, two hit batters and six strikeouts. The Lady Bulldogs were able to get the bats going with 10 hits in the 9-6 win. Along with pitching, Grooms went 2-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI. Kitchens scored twice with a 2-2 performance at the plate. Foltz was also 2-2 at the plate with a double, scoring twice and driving in a run.
Sullivan went on to win the tournament by beating Rockwood Summit in the championship 5-2. Cor Jesu finished in third place and Bolivar finished in fourth.
