The Rolla softball team (2-18, 0-7 OC) hosted Lebanon for their Senior Night on Thursday, Sept. 28. Rolla recognized their lone senior, Mackenzie Proffitt, after the game, but Lebanon had the upper hand during the contest. The Yellowjackets had two home runs from Cally Blattel in a 7-2 win.

The scoring got started right off the bat. Bailey Pierce started for the Lady Bulldogs and had a strong performance, but she had some trouble with Blattel. The Lebanon senior launched a two run shot in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Rolla then responded in the bottom of the frame. After a single by Emalee Grooms, Kassidy Chrisco dropped down a bunt. The throw to first thumped off of Chrisco's back and rolled into foul territory. That allowed Grooms to circle the bases and score from first base. Chrisco went to second on a groundout by Maycie Montgomery before scoring on a single by Chloe Wood.

The second inning was quiet, but Lebanon added another run in the third on a solo shot by Blattel to take a 3-2 lead. Montgomery nearly responded with a home run of their own in the bottom of the inning, but a well struck ball narrowly went foul. She went on to strike out in the at bat.

Lebanon got some other bats involved in the fourth inning, as both Amanda Varble and Avery Hlavacek roped RBI doubles in the top of the frame, pushing their lead to 7-2. The Lady Yellowjackets added another run in the sixth when Pierce attempted to walk Blattel. While trying to get the walk, Pierce grounded a ball home and Lebanon scored on a passed ball. Lebanon scored one more run in the top of the seventh on their way to a 7-2 win.

Pierce pitched a complete game in her first start of the season. She allowed seven runs, one of which was unearned, on seven hits, six walks and two strikeouts.

Bailey Pierce has been coming on for awhile, had missed most of season, but recently has done a very good job of helping us from a pitching standpoint. Not overpowering, but does a very good job of making the opponents put the ball in play," said head coach Tim Dunn. "She pitched a good game against Lebanon, which was her first start of the season. Did a pretty good job of controlling the strike zone, had a few more walks than she would have liked, but for her first start, did a fine job for us."

It was also Senior Night for the Lady Bulldogs, as the team showered Proffitt with gifts and hugs after the game.

"Makenzie has done an outstanding job this year of filling in where needed, and coming up with some big hits," said coach Dunn of his lone senior. "We will definitely miss her wonderful outlook on things. She’s always been very positive and such a great teammate.”

After honoring Proffitt, the JV had a walk-off 6-5 win over Lebanon. Alex Kitchens and Hannah Buecler each scored twice in the victory.

The Lady Bulldogs are playing host for the Rolla Invitational this weekend, which kicked off on Friday, Sept. 29. Results from their two games on Friday, were not available at press time, but they are guaranteed to play twice on Saturday.
