The Rolla tennis team hosted Waynesville in the first round of Districts on Monday, Sept. 25. The Lady Bulldogs made quick work of Waynesville, sweeping the first five matches to advance to the second round.

Rolla got off to a fantastic start in doubles play. Rachel Butz and Laura McCutcheon made quick work of Chloe Trusty and Klementyna Cichocki in a 8-1 at number one. The next match to finish up was at number three, where Kathleen Beetner and Shannon Chan beat Blaire Smith and Tiffany Bell 8-3. The closest match of the night came at number two doubles, where Olivia Burken and Rylee Kriete were pushed to the edge by Lauren Demalade and Heather Emersen. Burken and Kriete had the upper hand in the end, winning the match 8-6 to finish off the sweep of doubles.

The Lady Bulldogs and Waynesville only got through two singles matches before the Lady Tigers were mathematically eliminated. Butz didn't have much trouble with Trusty at number one singles, winning the match 6-0, 6-1. Burken then finished off Demalade 6-1, 6-1 to end the match. Rolla also led in all four of the remaining singles matches before clinching the 5-0 win.

"It was a great night for tennis and for our girls to accomplish one of their team goals by advancing to the District Semifinal on the side of the bracket opposite the top seed. They played with a lot of poise, energy, and skill," said Rolla head coach Joe Schisler. "The team continues tomorrow playing Lebanon in the semi-final...It will be the so-called rubber match. Each team has won one of the prior two meetings and each won in somewhat unorthodox ways. I am hoping we see each team at their best for perhaps the first time this season."

Rolla played their District match against Lebanon at Waynesville due to construction in Lebanon. The match was played on Tuesday, Sept. 26, but results were not available at press time.
