The Rolla cross country team traveled to Nixa for the Nixa Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Rolla continued to find success with four varsity medalists. They were led by Emma Puetz, who earned her third win of the season in as many races.

The event was split between small schools and large schools in the varsity races with Rolla running with the large schools. The varsity races were each 3.1 miles or 5,000 meters, while the JV races, which were not split into divisions, were 2.35 miles or 3,800 meters. There were 24 schools running in the Nixa Invitational, with the Rolla varsity racing against 14 other schools in the large school division.

The Lady Bulldogs didn't have enough runners for a team score, but they got a lot out of their three varsity runners. Puetz won the race with a time of 19:52, but Rolla still had two more runners finish in the top 20. Krista Hilmas took ninth place with a time of 21:30, while Olivia Holmes placed 12th with a time of 21:41.

The girls then added two more medals in the JV race. The Lady Bulldogs still didn't have enough runners for a team score, but two of their four JV runners earned medals and the other two fells just shy. Visahka Ho and Kate Campbell finished back to back at 10th and 11th with times of 18:46 and 18:48. Faith Aguilarleon was just short of finishing with a medal, as she placed 22nd with a time of 19:29. Emma Starnes also finished in the top 30 when she placed 28th with a time of 19:50.

The boys also had a solid day with the varsity finishing in sixth as a team. They were led by Alex Frisbee, their lone medalist, who finished in 11th with a time of 17:42. Noah Crutcher was just outside of the medal group, as he finished in 24th with a time of 18:39. Brandon Burris placed 40th with a time of 19:27, Charlie Roberts took 58th with a time of 20:08, Kylann Hunn placed 60th with a time of 20:10, Charles Victor finished in 80th with a time of 20:54 and Wyatt Owens took 106th with a time of 22:32.

Rolla had their second win of the day in the boys JV race, as Jonathan Carlson won the race with a time of 14:03. Tristan Lietz was the next JV Bulldog to cross the finish line in 16:06 to place 36th. Behind him was Johnnie Swizdor in 47th place with a time of 16:31, Daniel Read took 57th with a time of 17 minutes flat, Kaleb Chiles placed 66th with a time of 17:37, Riley Troup took 95th with a time of 20:13 and Wesley Sutton finished in 97th with a time of 20:45.

The race was important for Rolla outside of the great finishes. Nixa will host Rolla's District race this season, so Rolla had a good chance to scout the location and get a feel for the course.

Next up for Rolla is their home meet on Thursday, Sept. 21.
