The Rolla girls tennis team is grinding through both illness and a busy schedule this week and that continued when they hosted Helias on Thursday, Sept. 14. Rolla only pulled out one win in an 8-1 loss. The JV lost by the same score.

Rolla mixed things up a bit at doubles to counterbalance some of their sick players. Rachel Butz only played in singles, so Laura McCutcheon and Olivia Burken played at number one and the pair of Diya Allada and Rylee Kriete played at number two. Shannon Chan and Kathleen Beetner then paired up at number three. All three doubles teams took losses, with Rolla being shut out 8-0 at one and two before losing 8-3 at number two.

After not playing in doubles, Butz came in to play singles and gutted her way to a 9-7 over Abby Dowden. Rolla went on to lose the other five singles matches. Allada had the closest match, losing 8-6 to Martina Larangy at number four. McCutcheon lost 8-1, Burken fell 8-4, Kriete lost 8-1 and Beetner rounded things out with an 8-2 loss.

"Very friendly non conference non district match. Each team had players sniffling their way through this match due to illness," said head coach Joe Schisler. "Great sportsmanship all around."

The JV was back in action on Friday in the Lebanon JV Tournament, but results were not available at press time. The varsity had the weekend to recover from their illness before they host Waynesville on Monday, Sept. 18.
