The Rolla soccer team (4-2, 2-0 OC) made the trip to West Plains for an Ozark Conference matchup on Wednesday, Sept. 13. The Bulldogs scored twice in the first half before blowing the Zizzers out of the water in the second half of a 9-0 victory.
Jayson Ross was hampered by a leg injury in the tail end of the Pacific Tournament, but he was back at full strength on Wednesday. He kicked off the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute on an assist by Jarret Gabriele. Gabriele then added an unassisted goal in the 21st minute to give Rolla a 2-0 lead. They went on to carry that lead into the half.
The Bulldogs turned it up to 11 in the second half and it began with Ross again. He scored his second goal of the night off an assist by Mohamed Alamaldeim three minutes into the half. Evan Moore then scored just a minute later off another assist from Alamaldeim to extend the lead to 4-0. Alamaldeim then got to score a goal of his own just two minutes later off an assist from Gabe Stanislawski. Rolla ended their unstoppable streak in the first seven minutes of the half with their fourth goal in that span by Adeeb Messri, again assisted by Alamaldeim.
While Rolla slowed down a bit after the first seven minutes of the second half, their scoring didn't stop. Ross completed his hat trick in the 70th minute off another assist from Gabriele to push the lead out to 7-0. Stanislawski then got on the board a minute later on Gabriele's third assist. Gabriele then added his second goal of the game off an assist by Stanislawski with two minutes remaining in the contest to put the seal on a 9-0 victory.
Senior captain Drew Blair recorded his fourth shutout of the season to put his career shutout total to 29. He needs just six more shutouts to tie the school record.
Rolla filled up the stat sheet on Wednesday. Ross led the team in goals with three for a hat trick, but Jarret Gabriele had his hands in the most goals. He scored twice and assisted three more goals. Alamaldeim added three assists and a goal of his own, while Stanislawski assisted two goals and scored one. Evan Moore and Messri each chipped in with a goal.
"Nice to get everyone plenty of playing time," said head coach Mike Howard. "We have eight very tough games in a row now, we will be tested in each game."
That streak of tough games starts with the Parkway Tournament this weekend. Rolla will play Parkway South on Friday before playing Parkway North and West on Saturday.
