In conjunction with the Missouri University of Science & Technology Celebration of Nations event, set for Saturday, September 30, the Rolla Downtown Business Association (RDBA) is hosting a Celebration of Nations “solve the puzzle” game. The theme is Together We Complete the Puzzle.
Area residents are invited to stop in each of the 29 businesses, pick up a puzzle piece, assemble the puzzle, complete the entry form and drop off at one of the downtown banks, Central Federal, First State Community Bank and the PCB downtown location.
The game launches on Wednesday, September 13 and ends on Wednesday, September 27.
Three winners’ names will be drawn from the completed entries. First place will receive $100, second place will receive $75 and third will receive $50 ... all in “Downtown Dollars” to be spent with participating businesses. The drawings will be held on Thursday, September 28 and the winners’ names will be announced at the 2017 Celebration of Nations event in the downtown festival lot at the band shell.
“Celebration of Nations gives us an amazing opportunity to join the S&T campus and the community to celebrate our rich cultural diversity while educating area residents about other countries in such a fun way,” said RDBA president Lonna Sowers. “We are so fortunate to have this opportunity to highlight the international flavor of our community. Our children have a chance to learn about other countries, their languages and cultures.”
The Celebration of Nations event is the largest family-friendly, multicultural festival in mid-Missouri.
Area children receive passports which will be stamped at each of the international booths at the festival as they learn more about each country.
The event begins with a Parade of Nations, featuring entries from over 80 countries with music, native dress and the ever popular camels. The parade culminates in the downtown festival lots with an all-day festival with food, music, camel rides and educational experiences sponsored by S&T students, staff, faculty and others from various countries. A Celebrate Talent competition will be held during the event. Area residents are invited to participate in the talent competition.
Rolla Middle School fourth, fifth and sixth grade students are participating in an all-school Celebration of Nations coloring contest. RMS homerooms have colored the puzzle, created from the front of the 2017 Souvenir T-shirt design, competing for best coloring design. The top three homerooms will be treated by RDBA to a pizza party.
All of the RMS coloring entries will be displayed at the festival near the band shell.
