The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped a 2-0 decision at Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon despite outshooting the Knights 10-9 in the contest. Mikaela Mockenhaupt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) had four of S&T's (0-3, 0-2 GLVC) 10 shots in the game.
Mockenhaupt tried to get the Lady Miners on the board in the 21st minute but her shot was stopped by Taylor Smith. She had another attempt in the 26th minute that she missed wide. Bellarmine (2-0-1, 1-0-1 GLVC) broke the scoreless draw in the 36th minute when Rosie Taylor tapped in a corner kick from Audrey Van Der Elst.
S&T had three attempts to tie the game in the final minute of the half but all three were blocked by the Knight defense.
The Lady Miners finished with a 7-2 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes with two of those being on goal.
Bellarmine added to its lead 2:32 into the second half on Samantha Ferry's third goal of the season. Annabel Moore sent a pass ahead that was headed by Erika Joldrichsen to Ferry who shot it past Rylee Hanes (Ladera Ranch, Calif./San Juan Hills) from the center of the box from eight yards out.
The Knights had a chance to make it 3-0 nearly six minutes later but Erika Laws missed a penalty kick.
Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) tried to cut the lead in half in the 63rd minute but her shot was saved by Taylor Smith.
Bellarmine finished the second half with a 7-3 advantage in shots and 4-1 in shots on goal.
S&T continues its four match road trip on Tuesday traveling to St. Charles, Mo., to take on Lindenwood at 7 p.m.
