The Rolla volleyball team (2-2, 0-1 OC) hosted Kickapoo for the first Ozark Conference game of the season on Thursday, Aug. 31. The Lady Bulldogs had an off night against a good Kickapoo team, falling 25-9, 25-10.
Rolla struggled across the board in their matchup against Kickapoo, as their serving, hitting and passing were all out of sync. Kickapoo took advantage of those mistakes for two easy wins.
"It was a frustrating match and nothing was in sync for us. We couldn't pass or hit and missed too many serves," said head coach Stephanie Pritchett. "Sometimes a team seems snake bit- that was us. We made all our own mistakes and really didn't make Kickapoo work at all. It was very uncharacteristic of our team. Kickapoo is not a bad team, but we made them look like state champions simply due to our errors."
Megan Brown led the team with three kills in the game, while Courtney Colench added two and Shelby Ply and Rebecca Janke each had one. Loran Pritchett led the team defensively with six digs. She was also second on the team with four assists. Leah Rasco led the team with five assists in the loss.
The JV and freshmen games had similar results. The JV fell in straight sets 25-16, 25-13, but coach Pritchett pointed out that Lexi Froelich had a particularly strong game defensively. The freshmen fell in straight gets 25-16, 25-8.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when they host Jefferson City.
