The St. James football team (2-0) traveled down to Houston for a non-conference matchup on Friday, Aug. 25. The Tigers continued their fantastic start to the season, as they haven't allowed a point and have scored 102 through just two games. St. James cruised past Houston 42-0.
The Tigers got things going with a strong passing game and never really slowed down. Senior quarterback Ryan Harlan connected with Carter Keeney for two touchdowns, 38 yards and 47 yards respectively. Seth Courtois was 1-2 on extra points, pushing the St. James lead to 13-0. That lead was extended to 15-0 by the end of the quarter when Drake Ortiz blocked a punt and forced a safety.
Gunnar Seams scored the lone touchdown of the second quarter on a one-yard run and St. James went into the half with a 22-0 lead.
Harlan added two more touchdowns in the third quarter, one in the air and one on the ground. First he hit Jaden Roark for a six yard score before running one of his own in. Courtois was 1-2 on extra points in the quarter and St. James went into the fourth quarter with a 39-0 lead.
St. James stepped off the gas a little offensively in the fourth, bringing in more of the backups. They scored one final touchdown when Michael Higginbotham snagged an interception and carried it 40 yards to the house to cap off a 42-0 win.
Harlan ended the game with 234 yards and three touchdowns through the air, while rushing for another 92 yards and a touchdown. Harlan also threw two interceptions. Seams ended the night with one touchdown and 89 yards rushing. Keeney led the team in receiving with 100 yards and two touchdowns. Cade Snitker wasn't far behind with 94 yards of his own. Defensively, Sage Gibson led the team with eight solo tackles and two assists. The Tigers had five sacks in the win with Ortiz, Nick Wilson, Zach Koons and the Petty brothers Cole and Cort each sacking the quarterback once.
The Tigers will remain on the road for their next contest when they travel to Hermann on Friday, Sept. 1.
