The Rolla volleyball team made the quick trip down to Salem for their first game of the season on Monday, Aug. 21. The JV and varsity both won their matches in straight sets, with the JV winning 25-18, 27-25 and the varsity cruising to a win 25-15, 25-7.
The Lady Bulldogs had a real team effort when they faced off against Salem. Everyone on the team chipped in a bit and Rolla was able to push past a slow start to win each set by at least 10 points. The Lady Bulldogs had some serving issues early on, but they locked in after that for a 25-15 win. That late momentum carried into the second game and Salem wasn't even able to break double figures, as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 25-7 win to take the match.
Megan Brown led the offense with five kills int he game, while Loran Pritchett had a strong game setting with seven assists. Head coach Stephanie Pritchett liked the balance she saw from her team.
"We had a balanced team effort and I'm proud of all the girls for turning it up after starting slow," said Pritchett. "It was a good first outing. We started slow and missed too many serves and then our focus got much better and we took care of business."
The JV also had their share of slow starts and even trailed in their second set, but a strong finished led to a victory in straight sets.
"The JV team also had a slow start and got behind in the second game but staged an amazing comeback to take the set 27-25," said Pritchett. "Salem JV was ready to play and hungry to win. They played great."
The Lady Bulldogs will stay on the road for their next game when they travel to Columbia to face Hickman on Thursday, Aug. 24.
