St. James golfer Payton Engelbrecht has played in three golf tournaments this summer and has found herself in the top 10 in all three. The most recent event was a second place finish in the Dan Rorke Memorial Junior Tournament on Monday, July 24.

Engelbrecht started her summer in the Whispering Oaks Junior Optimist event on Wednesday, June 14. The soon to be senior finished in a tie for eighth place in her age division by shooting a 96, which put her 26-over-par. Rolla's Audrey Collier also played in the event, finishing in a tie for third with a +17 87. Springfield's Aristelle Acuff dominated the event as the only player withing 10 strokes of par. She shot a two-over-par 72 to win the event.

After a rockier start, Engelbrecht flipped a switch and had a stellar month of July. She started with The Junior Slam on Tuesday, July 18. She finished in second place in her age group by shooting a +20 92. She then shaved off a few more strokes in the Dan Rorke Memorial Junior Tournament this Monday. She was one of three golfers in her age group to shoot under a 90 to finish in a tie for second place. She shot an 86 to tie with Ozark's Hannah Aherin at +14. Collier from Rolla also played in the tournament, shooting a +33 105. Kate Robertson out of Rogers, AR shot a +10 82.

Engelbrecht ranks seventh in the girls 16-18 age division in the Southwest Missouri Jr. Golf Association. In her three events her average score is 91.3.
