AI, a team out of St. Charles, claimed the Amateur Softball Association Missouri State Coed Championship after finishing the weekend with a perfect 6-0 record, capping things off with a 15-5 win over Eastern Missouri Industries, out of Benton, in the Championship game on Sunday, July 16.

AI had to take the long road to the championship, as they did not have a bye in the first round. The kicked things off by thrashing Bad Company in the opening round 17-3 before sneaking past Attack/Team Phelps 9-7. Their offense kept rolling on a scalding hot Saturday by smashing Shell Shocked 14-4. Their final game on the first day of the tournament was the quarterfinal against Juggernauts. The ended the day on a high note by cruising past Juggernauts 16-3.

Eastern Missouri Industries, meanwhile, started with a first round bye. They won their first matchup over All State/Hawthorn Galleries/Graham Sports 7-5. They then beat Shockers 10-6, before ending their Saturday with a 20-7 thrashing of Wicked, setting up their first matchup with AI.

AI And Eastern Missouri Industries faced off in the semi-final, with AI dominating 23-5, but Eastern Missouri's hopes were not dead yet. A 22-12 win over SOB in the losers bracket sent them into the championship game. If they were able to win the championship game, they would've had to beat AI a second time to claim the crown.

Unfortunately, they never had that chance. After Eastern Missouri controlled the game early thanks to a home run by Jason Mayfield in the second inning. They lead 5-2 through the top of the third inning, but after that, it was all AI. AI exploded in the bottom of the third, smashing in 11 runs with a pair of dingers from Mike Lammer and Greg Angel. That was all AI would need to cruise to victory, but they added two more runs late to end the game in the fifth for a 15-5 mercy rule win.

The third place team was SOB out of California Missouri, while All State/Hawthorn Galleries/Graham Sports out of Battlefield claimed fourth.
