The library board of the Rolla Public Library was notified recently by a law firm that they are currently being sued for blocking New Approach Missouri’s desire to meet in the library’s public meeting room. New Approach Missouri is a nonprofit campaign attempting to legalize medical marijuana in the state of Missouri.
In an April 2 RDN article about the incident, Randy Johnson, a Phelps County resident, said the meeting was to train interested parties how to “properly and ethically” collect signatures in order to get medical marijuana on the ballot for 2018. According to Johnson, the library’s response was that the proximity to the children’s area was a cause for concern in regards to New Approach Missouri’s Mission statement.
Library board President Jim Marcellus said the board could not comment, on advice from the library’s legal counsel.
