The Rolla Police Department welcomed Dakota Robertson into their ranks, and he has been serving faithfully on the force for two weeks. According to Robertson, his time so far has been challenging but enjoyable.
Officer Robertson said he joined the force because he wanted to make a difference in the lives of community members, and genuinely enjoy the work that goes into being a member of the local police department.
“I’m a little bit of an adrenaline junkie,” he said. “It’s not as fast paced as people make it out to be, but one of the best feelings is when someone looks at you and says you helped them. I’m hoping to touch somebody’s life like that.”
Officer Robertson’s desire to assist the community comes in part of the legacy he is part of, with too family members also serving with the Rolla Police Department.
“My mother is a police officer here…and my grandfather was a police officer as well,” he said. “So there are a lot of influential law enforcement figures in my life. Aside from that I really want to make a difference…so I decided to carry on the legacy.”
And despite only being on the force for two weeks, Officer Robertson already knows where he wants his career to take him.
“For the most part I want to stay a patrol officer,” he said. “I’m hoping within five years to join the SWAT team over here and maybe one day become a detective.”
Officer Robertson added that his immediate goal is to benefit the community and help people on an individual level, giving help to anyone that needs it, “pointing them in the right direction or getting them out of a situation they don’t need to be in.
