A Rolla man is charged with four separate counts of statutory sodomy after allegedly engaging in deviant sexual intercourse with a child.

Dennis Eugene Keeney, age 70 of Rolla, was arrested after it was reported that he engaged in sexual contact with a young child.

According to the probable cause statement, Keeney was observed having sexual contact with the child by his wife, who later brought the child to Phelps County Regional Medical Center for a medical assessment. The statement says the victim reported to a nurse that Keeney “touched me down there.”

An officer made contact with Keeney at his residence at approximately 10 p.m. that night, according to the statement, and Keeney agreed to be interviewed at the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department.

The officer said in his report that Keeney denied having sexual contact with the victim after being advised of his Miranda rights.

According to the probable cause statement, Keeney said his DNA was plausible to be on the victim, as he may have brushed them after helping her get dressed. Keeney also allegedly called his wife and the child liars.

In his report, the officer “believed probable cause existed” based on “the totality of the circumstances” and Keeney was arrested and incarcerated.

According to the probable cause statement, Keeney was interviewed again the following day. The officer writes that Keeney “made many incriminating statements and confessed to statutory sodomy.” Keeney allegedly admitted to having sexual contact with the child on four separate occasions in the last year and a half.

In the probable cause statement, Keeney claimed the victim instigated the contact and on one occasion, “followed her instructions.” Keeney stated his actions were a result of the victim’s request. The statement says Keeney blamed his wife and the child for the sexual contact.

According to a press release issued by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, the victim is only five years old. Keeney’s bond is set at $500,000.
