Update of the suspicious package found at the reactor site at Missouri S&T on late Friday afternoon

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the plastic bag of materials found at the Missouri S&T reactor site was free of explosives or dangerous chemicals. S&T operations have returned to normal.

At 3:45 p.m. Friday afternoon, Missouri S&T University Police responded to a report of a suspicious package at the doorway of the reactor. Buildings in the surrounding area were evacuated, and law enforcement secured the area.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Explosives Disposal Unit was on the scene last night and the subsequent investigation cleared the area for normal operation of the university early Saturday morning.
