Veteran's Park on Southview Drive was the site for the AUSA/Phelps for the Fort Barbeque on June 1st.  Approximately 80 guests were treated to a  superb marinated pork steak dinner  prepared and served by volunteers from the organization and Redeemer Lutheran Church.  Introductions of elected officials and Mayor Magdits were given by PFTF chairman Kevin Greven, with remarks by Jerry Bumpus, Veteran's Park coordinator.  Colonel Kent Soebbing  from Fort Leonard Wood was the keynote speaker, who commented on the warm relationship between the city of Rolla and  Fort  Wood.  Guests were treated to a wide variety of music by the talented 399th Army Band ensemble from FLW. The event was supported by the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce and Grellner Sales. Veterans Park had been carefully manicured prior to the event by Jerry and his volunteers, and many guests took advantage of the perfect weather to stroll the Memorial Path, lined with monuments commemorating each US war/conflict..
The next Phelps for the Fort event will be held on July 8th at Fugitive Beach; an evening luau will be held, with proceeds to benefit the AUSA Warrior in Need fund. Contact the RACC for more information.
