The Pixie and Petite youth softball leagues started action on Thursday, June 1. The Pixie League is seven and eight-year-old girls, while the Petite League is nine through 11-year-olds. Both play at Lions Club Park on Thursdays.
The Pixie League kicked off with a matchup between Optimist and Schuetz Construction. Schuetz Construction dominated the matchup, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings on their way to shutting out Optimist 6-0.
Schuetz then finished off their doubleheader against Wedge Wood in the second game of the night. The game lasted five innings in a pitcher's dual, but neither team was able to get a run across and the game ended in a scoreless tie.
The Petite League started with a matchup between Price Chopper and Optimist. Price Chopper opened the game with four runs in the first, while Optimist nearly matched them with three runs of their own in the inning. Both teams scored twice in the second, but the extra run that Price Chopper scored in the first gave them a 6-5 win.
The second game of the night for the Petites was between FSCB and Sinks. The runs were flying in this matchup, as both teams opened the game with a five-run first. Both teams then followed that up with five runs a piece in the second to end the game in a 10-10 tie.
